Don Mills Residents meeting May 27

Post by Admin Verified »

Reminder that the annual meeting of the ratepayers group "DMRI, Inc." is this evening (Wed. May 27, 2026)

N.B. in my opinion
Monday's meeting that DMRI had with city councillor Jon Burnside and a couple of guys from the TTC was a waste of time. That's to say that for sure the meeting raised some good points (more on this later) but a lot of the discussion was about the failings of Metrolinx and of course the TTC people said "sorry that's not us". And they didn't exactly hand out business cards, nor did the organizers show "Next steps" slides and contact information.

Worse, DMRI president
Vanessa Quinn e-mailed a letter to North York council that actually made it onto the agenda at yesterday's meeting. Her letter mentioned a grand total of one issue - the lack of parking and a safe drop-off facility at the back door of the "Don Valley Don Mills Road" LRT station which butts onto Gervais Drive.

If any of the councillors present at North York council yesterday appended anything from
Monday's "DMRI/Burningsides" meeting I haven't heard about it; the last time I checked a transcript of yesterday's 3 hour session had yet to be posted.

My point being that it's an illustration of how difficult it can be to raise and follow through on questions of public policy. You can drag yourself out to un-advertised, largely un-noted "meetings" and it is just so, so easy for stuff to fall by the wayside.

Re: Don Mills Residents meeting tonight

Quick update at 1 p.m. on Thursday - as I mentioned my take on the meeting was that it was disappointing. I was allowed to address the meeting - just a couple of dozen people - but I don't think they understood what I was talking about, re: city council and the problems with the FMTA, and the importance of area residents having an actual, peer-to-peer forum.

One good point was the business of 8 Parmbelle Crescent, which was described as a watershed item that could affect the entire city. I remembered the "consultation" thing a few weeks ago because there was a scheduling conflict (DMRI Inc. did not mention the conflict). I proceeded to research the item in real time (on a Android phone with built-in Google Gemini) and on my device the A.I. jumped in to summarize the information. But then when I tapped on on of the A.I.'s links, I fell into a logic hole in the city's bureaucracy at "Toronto.ca"!!!

I'll post enlargements of these screenshots later but suffice it to say that it's an excellent example of the city's blocking access to residents, to and about "consultations", and the minute the "consulation" is over the city sweeps everything under the rug even before the digital "ink" has dried!

Overall though it seemed as though the two dozen or so people at the meeting all had broken arms - everyone had *big white casts* and their arms in slings and no-one was able to click a mouse or tap on a phone (or speak to a generative A.I.) to produce an events calendar!

So they actually used a reading of the
Book of Calendar I guess (the meeting took place in a church) as filler to end the meeting! They read out some upcoming events MANUALLY. Oh, the rushing and scratching of all the paperless styluses making notes! And in their list of noteworthy stuff that is coming up (all rise!) councillor Jon Burningside's upcoming barbecue took precedence over the FMTA's annual meeting on June 13th. Huh?!!

Afterwards I looked up some of the stuff from Tuesday's meeting of the North York council... the DMRI's letter was like 3 pages max. Compare this to Bousfield Inc.'s comments which ran TWENTY PAGES. And Bousfields had
Aird and Berlis LLP on board. Not familiar with that firm? Duh! Think former Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario JOHN BLACK AIRD. Trust me, this is the Family Compact reborn and reconstituted, and writ very, very large.
